On 8/7/26 we experienced unexpected downtime with NetBird’s beta reverse proxy. The cloud endpoint we relied on — eu1.netbird.services — went offline and became unreachable. Up until today, we had been hesitant to switch to Tailscale because of the additional setup work involved. However, the outage made it clear that downtime at this stage was not acceptable, and it pushed us to migrate to a platform that isn’t in beta and has a proven track record of stability.
The transition to Tailscale taught us a lot, and the platform has already shown the reliability we needed. That said, we’ll continue monitoring NetBird’s progress, because we genuinely believe their future looks promising. Their reverse proxy setup is significantly simpler and more streamlined, and if they continue improving stability, it could become a strong option again.
